After teaming up Kern & Jay D are producing tracks together aswell, they have also started various radio projects online and on public broadcast.

Welcome to Futurednb Kern & Jay D. Introduce yourselves?

Hey we're Dan and Jay (KERN AND JAY D) We're both from Bristol and love electronic music!

Dan: I used to play alot of instruments from a young age, Drums, guitar and bass. After playing in bands till 16 and taking on various projects i stopped to start to concentrate on production and DJing. After finding my style with both, I teamed up with Jay after being friends for years. I'm currently finishing a collaberation dubstep EP and working in the studio with Jay under the name "D-CODE" on our forthcoming tracks.

Jay: I've been involved with music most of my life, since I was a toddler I used to watch my dad play the guitar all of the time which inspired me to learn. At school I was guitarist in the band "BackUp" (I know, lame name) and outside of school in "Gordan Bennet" (now thats a name!) Doing many gigs and performances. Through growing up, I started to explore all music genre's and this is where I found my true passion for drum and bass. At the age of 21 I decided to get a pair of Numark belt driven decks (laughs) and have a blast at DJ'ing myself. It pretty much took off from there.

What brought you two together as a duo?

Dan: Me and Jay met through skating around 4/5 years ago, Not long after Jay started DJing I started aswell. After a while I started mixing with him at his house and with his house mates (MR-K & BIGSPIN). I learnt alot from them and eventually we decided to team up.

Tell us about your nights, where can people catch Kern & Jay D?

Dan: Bristol mainly! we play alot of the nights around Bristol at the moment, I also run my own dnb night called 'Intelligent Beatz'

Jay: Were residents at alot of Bristol Jump up nights, Radiation, Detonate, Intelligent Beatz to name a few. We've also decided to do more radio this year so you can catch us on thursday nights 10-11 on www.afterdarkradio.org Also we've started our own night 'TOOMUCH!'.

What equipment are you using for mixing, do you mix live vinyl or mp3's?

Jay: We made the switch around october to just CDJ's, previous to that we played a mix of vinyl and mp3's when gigging.

Do you play other styles of bass music or are you strictly Jump up?

Jay: We love abit of everything so were down for loads of different genres! Drum & Bass and Dubstep are the ones we're normally booked to play.

You said before about Intelligent Beatz, what's Intelligent Beatz all about?

Dan: Intelligent Beatz is a new bass orientated event started by DJ's 'WIGGZ' & 'MATTY T' late 2011. The night showcase's Bristol Dnb, Dubstep and House. Aswell as massive headliners from all over the world. Ruffly november last year I came onboard to help the guys and the nights been doing really well. Next months offering features DJ's: Original Sin, Alpha, chunky bizzle, Me and Jay aswell as MC's: EVIL B +many more.

What was your biggest highlight from 2011?

Jay: Uhhh all of it to be fair, we played some great gigs and made some great tracks so just the overall positive reaction last year made all the hard work worth it.

What music are you producing at the moment?

Dan: I have a Dubstep EP thats nearly finished which is really exciting. Its got some tracks featuring some great vocalists and artists, its just being finished off at the moment.

Jay: I've been hitting the studio hard recently, working on quite a few dnb and dubstep tracks. We've also got tracks together in the works aswell. Add our fanpage by clicking the link below for updates!

What can we expect to see from Kern & Jay D in the coming year?

Dan: More tracks, More mixes and radio shows and more sets! We're going for it this year.

Are there any other DJ's / Producers you think we should be looking out for in 2012?

Dan: Definitely, a few friends of ours are doing really well at the moment. Bigspin and MR-K are always guys to look out for, they've got some upcoming releases that everyone needs to go checkout.

Tell us about your guest mix, what can we expect to hear?

Jay: A blend of the Drum & Bass tracks we like from the last couple of months, featuring some of our favourite artists!
