DRUM AND BASSLINES RESIDENT DJ FADE FEATURED IN KMAG !!!

Fade

Hailing from Ukraine, Fade is a deep drum & bass producer to watch in 2012. In just a few years, he has managed to get releases on such labels as Renegade Hardware, DSCI4, Horizons, Ingredients and Architecture. We caught up with him to find out about his releases and future plans, plus he provides a guest mix.

To begin with, please introduce yourself...
My name's Eugene and I'm from Kiev, Ukraine.

When and how did you start to DJ/produce drum&bass?
It all began at a local party where I fell in love with the energy of DnB. After a while, I started DJing - my first gig was back in 2006. In 2009, I realised that this wasn't enough to realise my potential, so I fully concentrated on music production. Since then, I've come to the conclusion that I want to devote myself to music.

Please describe your sound...
My music is an organic mix of dark sounds, deep bass, dense beats and live percussions. I get great satisfaction from the process of writing. I constantly try to experiment with a sound by adding new elements - I don't limit myself within a concrete style.

What inspires you?
My creativity is self-expression. Often new ideas come spontaneously. There are different things that can inspire me, from just watching a movie, to feelings that I have at a certain point in time.

Tell us about your latest releases.
At the end of 2011, two of my tunes were released on Renegade Hardware as part of the Ink and Loxy Horsementality LP project. On February 20th, I had an EP released on Architecture Recordings. It had four solo tracks and a collaboration with Atmospherix.

Was it hard to get signed on Renegade Hardware?
I was very surprised when Ink sent me a message offering to sign my track to Renegade Hardware... it was a real step forward for me. After all, Renegade Hardware is one of the most respected labels in DnB history.

What is your greatest achievement music-wise?
I enjoy what I do and I think that it is necessary to further develop and move forward. If people like my creativity, then it is the greatest achievement. It always gives me an incentive and proves that I'm on the right track.

Tell us about your radio show at Jungletrain Radio...
I have a weekly show on Jungletrain, every Friday from 19.30 till 21.00 (GMT). I try to play as many interesting tunes as possible within the limits of time. I'm also a resident DJ at the Drum and Basslines project, which throws parties all over Ukraine, Belarus and Georgia.

Do you have any favourite producers?
Nowadays there is a lot of interesting and quality music... you can find about my preferences while listening to my guest mix!

Would you like to make a collab with someone?
I actually prefer working on my own and therefore don't have anyone in mind.

Do you have a lot of bookings?
Recently I've been more concentrated on music production. However, I do try to find time for DJing, as this is the best way to try out fresh tracks on a dancefloor.

What's your favourite club?
I don't have a favourite club at the moment. The main thing is a good sound and atmosphere.

What do you prefer, DJing or production?
Hard to say. At present, I spend more time on music production.

Do you use CDs or vinyl?
I play from CDs. It is much more convenient to travel with a small CD case than a heavy vinyl bag.

Tell us about your studio setup.
Mac Book Pro + two monitors (Yamaha HS 80) + Ableton Live 8 + various VST plug-ins.

Do you produce anything else other than DnB?
I'm fully concentrated on DnB, but I sometimes experiment with house and bass music.

What are you working on at the moment? Are there any releases in the coming months?
I recently finished a remix of a track called Indus Valley by Morphy and Nasha for Voodoo Music. I'm currently working on several new tracks, one of which is devoted to my girlfriend. It has a romantic mood, but with the dark shades typical of my music. For a wider audience, there will be a release on DSCI4, as part of the album dedicated to the closure of the label (Last Chapter LP). In autumn, there will be a release on IM:Ltd and a 12" on Alignment. You can also expect tracks on compilations from Horizons Music and Ingredients, plus two tunes on Inneractive Music.

Tell us about the guest mix you've recorded...
I've included my tracks, music that I like, and music that corresponds to my current mood.
